Gerald Ratner is a household name and a well-known businessman. His name is also associated with one of businesses biggest falls from grace. As CEO of the family jewellery chain he became one of Britain’s best known businessmen taking the business from 130 to 2,500 stores and sales of over £1.2bn. Following a high profile gaffe when he described a product as ‘total crap’, he spent 18 months in damage control but was eventually forced out of the business.

He was reduced to day-time TV and felt depressed and bewildered. Eventually he borrowed and developed a health club, sold it to develop his online jewellery business GeraldOnline.
